4000m SUMMITS
There are at least
seven peaks in the High Atlas reaching over 4000m in height
(depending on your
definition of what constitutes a separate summit!). The highest is
of course Jebel Toubkal at
4167m.
Six of these seven are in the Mizane valley adjacent to Toubkal
(the seventh is the remote Ighil Mgoun 4068m in the Central High
Atlas east of Toubkal).
Of the six in the Mizane valley, the three
most popular are Toubkal 4167m and the Ouanoukrim "twins" at the head of the
valley (these are the 2nd & 3rd
highest peaks - Timesguida 4089m & Ras 4083m). The remaining three
of
Afella 4043m, Akioud 4030m and
Biguinoussene 4002m are all frequently climbed as well - but in
winter generally demand more skills than the normal routes on Toubkal and
Ouanoukrim.
